Ufa State Aviation Technical University was founded in 1932. It is a large scientific and educational complex, one of leading higher educational institutions of Russia. There are 18 areas of study and 40 programs in its 7 Faculties (fulltime and by correspondence).

More than 6000 students study at the university.

The number of departments is 43. The total number of teaching faculty is more than 650, of these 30 are Russian and foreign Academies of Sciences Full Members. There are 633 full-time teachers (not counting Military Department) and 64 part-time teachers at the University.
Highly qualified experts make up 80% of the faculty members. During the years of its existence USATU has trained about 60000 specialists for different branches of Russian and regional economy.
The university carries out multilevel specialists training. Programs leading to the Bachelor's Degree, Engineer Diploma and to the Master's Degree are successfully combined in it. University fundamentalism of natural-scientific circle and humanitarian component of higher professional education serve as an educational basis. It allows to achieve multiprofile teaching, ensures integration into the global system of higher education. The extension of specialities spectrum towards science-consuming, interdisciplinary natural-scientific, social-economic and humanitarian ones, actual scientific and engineering students' activity, adapted to individual personal abilities and their intellectual potential, orientation to priority trends of science and technology development allow to better take into account the region and country needs and to realize competitive specialists training in the conditions of market economy.
The university provides opportunities for further education in professional economical and managerial spheres and to secure a second major. Taking into account the needs of the region the university offers specialists retraining courses and professional skills improvement according to the areas of study and programs. The university has a branchy structure which includes 3 scientific design and technology bureax: "Iskra", "Tantal", "Vikhr", "USATU-Pribor" Experimental production facilities, two aircraft testing grounds outside the campus, Institute of Physics of Advanced Materials, Bashkir Regional Center of Innovative Technologies, Ufa Branch of Specialists Training Quality Problems Research Center Under Russian Federation Ministry of General Education and Vocational Training, Regional Interbranch Center for Further Education, Bashkir Regional Branch of Russian Federation Testing Center, Regional Higher School Informatisation Center. Technological Park "Bashkortostan"  has been established at the University. Scientific and educational laboratory complex of the university is provided with up-to-date equipment and computers. In compliance with the university informatisation program there are developed and organized teaching computer programs, electronic textbooks, testing programs and computer laboratory courses. Network data-bases of norms and reference documents for training specialists have been created. The introduction of local computation networks into teaching process allows to effectively use the computing facilities of the university chairs and other subdivisions for the implementation of multilevel training of specialists. The integration into global information-computation networks provides access to the information resources of foreign higher education institutions.
The university provides training of foreign students, post-graduates and probationers in all areas and specialities available at the University. There is a preparatory department for those who do not know Russian. This department is aimed at teaching the Russian language to foreigners, to adapt them to the environmental conditions and thus to further their active involvement into the educational process. Such a form of students training as "incorporated training" is widely used at the university. The best students who are involved in research work and can speak foreign languages are sent to complete their education or to work on probation to leading higher education institutions of Russia (MSTU, MSU, MAI) and to universities of the USA, Germany, France and other countries.

More than 20 scientific schools have been developed at the university, which conduct fundamental, searching and applied researches in priority science and technical areas of science and technology.
Postgraduate courses provide training for Candidate's Degree in 44 and for Doctor's Degree in 15 programs. 8 specialized Scientific Councils award the Degrees. In addition to the specific technical trends postgraduate training includes such traditional university sciences as Mathematics, Physics, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics.
Close contacts with Russian academic and branch scientific centers provide effective joint research and wide involvement of the Academy of Science scientific personnel in the teaching process.
Joint research is accomplished within International programs with Karlsruhe University (Germany), Lion National Applied Sciences Institute (France), Nanjing Aeronautics University (China), Istanbul Technical University (Turkey).
Participation of USATU scientists in International Symposia, Conferences and Exhibitions and their organization on the University base promote wider international contacts in science and education.
The university library is one of the largest libraries both in the city and the republic with a universal scientific and technical literature stock which stands at over 1 million items. RELCOME network modem communication helps get the information on the latest scientific literature and catalogues from MSU library. Computer-aided system of information searching gives an opportunity to serve the readers in 10 reading-halls, 5 stationary and 9 portable branches.
The university campus consists of 9 multistorey dormitory buildings for 3000 students, family students having separate rooms, a hotel, a services center, a post-office, a savings bank, a medical center, a public catering center, clubs, gymnasiums and outdoor playgrounds.
The university sports center includes several halls for sports games, wrestling, athlete gymnastics, boxing etc, a leased swimming pool, a stadium, a shooting-gallery and a number of outdoor sportgrounds. Students are trained in 35 kinds of sports. There are also specialized groups for students with poor health. Students and university personnel have at their disposal "Agidel" sports camp on the bank of the Belaya river and "Aviator" tourists center at the Pavlovskoye base.
